Have you ever heard the phrase “Nothing happens before its time” or “the race is not for the swift?” These are phrases I would constantly recite to myself whenever things didn’t work out or go my way.
Sometime last year, around fall I made a promise to myself to be a better person. I do believe I am a good person, but there’s always room for growth and just like you I make mistakes and have made mistakes.
I told myself I’d go on a self cleanse which for me consisted of finding my true self and purpose, doing more of what makes me happy and saying no to things and people who weren’t adding value to my life, literally.
I was so serious about this cleanse that when one of my friends from China who’s into everything natural came to visit me, she motivated me to try something new. I went and got some natural deodorants, soaps and scrubs all of which I still use to this day. I started eating differently(surely I fell off the wagon with this). I was serious about my version of a self cleanse. As one of my friend Alyssa puts it I was on my “Erykah Badu” ish lol.
This went on for a few months, and as the new year rolled around I didn’t make a new years resolution, I was already on this journey so there was no need to. To be quite honest with you my “Erykah Badu” ish only lasted for the first few months of this year as I allowed some negative energy to intervene with my life. You know that quote where it is said you shouldn’t envy what others have because you don’t know how they came by it? Well I learned that literally the hard way. I had a sad or should I say a feeling of disappointment when I saw some classmates graduating and passing their NCLEX etc and that wasn’t me(had to gather myself real quick!) But being the person that I am, although happy for my classmates, I was a bit upset at myself for not completing my goal of graduating the year that I had planned, that’s the over achiever in me. I quickly learned the true definition of the phrase in the beginning of this post ” nothing happens before it’s time.” Would I have been ready if everything happened exactly like I planned? Where would I be if everything I planned happened the exact time I wished?
If I didn’t know then I definitely know now that everyone’s journey cannot be the same. There’s this tea-cup I saw in my local Dollar tree( don’t sleep on dollar tree) that had the words “find the joy in your journey” – of course I bought it not only because it costed a dollar, but I live for a good quote on a tea cup. That phrase spoke to me and prompted me to write this post. So today I want to encourage you all to trust the process and to find the joy in your journey, whatever that may be, and know that everything will happen when it’s suppose to happen. I hope you find some sort of motivation in this post and know that it is okay to fall behind , it is okay to want the absolute best for yourself, and it is definitely okay to put yourself first and practice self-care.
What are some of the things you do to better yourself? Leave a comment below let’s talk!
Until next time, go forth and be great!
Xoxo Tanya
This is truly motivating ! I am proud of you, I love you!
Thank you mommy, love you too.
Dealing with Monday blues and doubts I’m glad I read this. Thanks T for the constant motivation
You’re welcome hun.
Very motivational….I want things so badly but I am praying they come through….but I know it’ll be on God’s timing when he knows I can handle it…..#keep up the good work.
Oh yes! Things will happen when they’re suppose to happen. Just have to keep the faith. Thank you!
Great words so live by, “nothing happens before its time”. We always seem to want things in such a haste that we often overlook what is happening right infront of us and not realize that everything is within God’s plan! keep up the good work tanya, you’ve been doing great thus far and don’t let anyone tell you different! Xo
Thank you Kennia! I appreciate it. Everything will happen when it’s suppose to happen
I hope to better myself by trying to have faith that things really can work out in my favor. I enjoyed this post! Yes! Do not sleep on Dollar Tree! 🙂
Thank You! We have to keep the faith. Definitely cannot sleep on dollar tree.
It’s hard in the moment to see the timing of the universe, but I think you are exactly right in knowing the wisdom of being patient. Keep working it, girl.
Thank you! I’ve had to learn and I’m still learning. Patience is key.
Great piece! I needed to read this. I make constant vows not to measure myself by anyone else’s achievements, but sometimes I fall short of that goal. This was a good reminder. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! We have to appreciate our accomplishments big or small.
I loved reading this!
Thank you!
Inspired to “… find joy in the journey.”
I’m happy you are inspired.
I was one of the last ones in my dietetic internship class to take the RD exam to become a registered dietitian. While I was studying I used to get so nervous because I was focused on how embarrassing it would be if I fail. I also stressed myself out about it. But you are right everything in due time.
Don’t ever stop working on being a better you. Even if there are some hiccups along the way. These things make the journey!
Thanks for this and good luck!
Salut!
Thank you for this! We just to have yo trust the process and know that everything will happen in due time.
Thank you for sharing your story and words of encouragement. Even now as I am in the throes of entrepreneurship and I become discouraged because my calendar isn’t booked out like the next person but then like you shared “find joy in the journey” as I am gaining immeasurable experience along the way.
Everything takes time and once we fully understand that, things will call into place
Social media was metrics was starting to make me doubt myself and my capabilities. I had to remember that what’s for me is for me and everything happens when it’s supposed to which isn’t always on my schedule. Thanks for the reminder! Great post!
You’re welcome. It’s all about trusting our journey.
This is really good, I usually decide to be peaceful on purpose no matter what happens, The only way to make my life better is to choose peace because at the end of it all it’s all about yourself and no one else.
You are so right!
I actually stumbled upon your post because I am frantically searching for the mug in your picture. It was a gift from my children and I dropped it and it did not fair well. I really needed this word of encouragement though. I do not believe in coincidences, I believe that God led me to your page through a verse on a mug. Thank you for this, it is encouraging for me at this time in my life and what I am currently wrestling with. Even when things seem out of control I choose to find joy in each day.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,”
James 1:2
Blessings,
Cherie
Thank you. You can handle all that comes your way
