Hi, I'm Tanya!

Summer is officially here! I’m sure many of you are jet setting across the world, starting a new job or internship. As you know I’m an Island girl (shout out to my Antiguan peeps), I’ve been living in the US for a few years and this will be my second year spending the entire summer here (helpppp). I was wondering and thinking about things I could do this summer, then I came across a book I started to read and remembered I bought some other books a few months ago. Reading has been a long time hobby of mine, I would read at least 2 books a week but as I got older and school became more demanding the books I was reading were pretty much textbooks (so not fun). I thought I’d make a reading list and share it with you guys as well as make a commitment to read each book by the end of the summer.

Here goes the list:

  1. Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It by Charlamagne Tha God

    IMG-20170629-WA0057

Charlamagne is the self-proclaimed “Prince of Pissing People Off,” he’s the co-host of the popular radio show The Breakfast Club. In this book he shares eight principles for unlocking your God given privilege. I am currently reading this book and Charlamagne is just as raw as he is on his radio show but is dropping some gems in this book. I’m loving what I’ve read so far and can’t wait to finish this book. I’ll be sure to let you guys know what I think when I’m finished.

2.  Don’t Settle for Safe: Embracing the Uncomfortable to Become Unstoppable by Sarah Jakes Roberts

sarah jakes

I first discovered Sarah Jakes when a friend sent me a video of her hosting an event at her church. Since then I became a little obsessed with her and what she stands for. I read her first book and have read every single books she’s released.  I’m currently working on my spiritual journey and a quest to finding my true purpose in life so I’m hoping this book will be able to give me a little guidance. I can’t wait to read this book.

3. Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself: How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One by Dr. Joe Dispenza

breaking the habit

I started this book then I stopped because I didn’t have the time to read it. A friend recommended this book to me, after reading the synopsis I became very interested as I believe it’s in alignment with where my life is right now and will answer the many questions I ask myself on daily basis.

You are not doomed by your genes and hardwired to be a certain way for the rest of your life. A new science is emerging that empowers all human beings to create the reality they choose. In Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, renowned author, speaker, researcher, and chiropractor Dr. Joe Dispenza combines the fields of quantum physics, neuroscience, brain chemistry, biology, and genetics to show you what is truly possible.

    4.  The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself  by  Michael A. Singer

untethered soul

I came across this book when I was watching an episode of Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday. This books explains how to truly find inner peace. I’ve been learning to protect my peace and energy as I am trying to live a life that is sole positive and of course peaceful. As I continue on this journey of life, it is important that I find peace within. I’m hoping this book will help with me with this as I am one to let simplest of things disrupt my peace.

5.  Sir Curtly Ambrose: Time to Talk

ambrose-book

One of the leading – and most lethal – fast bowlers of all time, Curtly Ambrose played 98 Tests and 176 One Day Internationals for the West Indies, and for much of his career topped the ICC player rankings. He was an integral part of the iconic West Indies teams of the late 1980s and early 1990s whilst also bearing witness to their decline throughout the 1990s and beyond. A formidable sportsman, Curtly has unique insight into the extreme highs and debilitating lows of international cricket.

But during his career Curtly Ambrose was notorious for his silence. He rarely spoke to the media and, if he did, it was usually to rebuff an interview, which earned him the infamous reputation of ‘Curtly talks to no one!’.

This book is an autobiography written by my father( yes a shameless plug). In this book Curtly tells the story of his life with the West Indies cricket team for the very first time. From his colorful upbringing in Antigua, through to the turbulent politics of both nation and dressing room, the book takes you behind the scenes to give a fascinating insight into the career of an iconic sportsman.

One may wonder why I haven’t read my own father’s book but like I said earlier school basically took over my life. I grew up living with this man and have witnessed his greatness but I am genuinely excited to read about his career and other aspects of his life. As you may know I am one of my father’s biggest fans so it makes me happy and proud of him for  being able to add author to his name.

My taste in reading is very eclectic. This is all I have to share now folks. Let me know what is on your reading list so we can discuss. Leave a comment or follow me on Facebook and Twitter. I am committed to finishing all these books.

I’m trying to get more into the swing of reading between my busy schedule! These books seem interesting. The only one I’ve heard of is Charlamagne’s book. I’m all for self-improvement (which seems to be the theme of your choices), so I’ll have to do some research into these other books!
