Hi, I'm Tanya!

I know I’ve been pretty quiet as it relates to school, that’s because I’ve been figuring out what I wanted my next step to be. Like I’ve mentioned in my  Failing Forward post I have encountered several stumbling blocks on my pursuit to my nursing degree. At times I’ve felt like giving up but that is not an option. To be honest I feel like I need to take a different route on my way to my nursing degree and follow what my heart is telling me to do right now.

I’ve known about this for a few months but now I’m letting you guys know I will be pursuing a degree in Public Health this fall!

Public Health was something I’ve always wanted to do after nursing school, but with the many stumbling blocks I’ve faced; I thought, why not pursue this and see what happens. I do have a keen a interest in wanting to prevent others from getting sick. I’ve been working on practicing healthy behaviors which I think being in the Public Health field will help me with that and I also want to educate others more about health because like me I don’t know everything health related. Having a degree in Public Health and then Nursing will put certain things into perspective and I know I’ll be better equipped.

Never in a million years I expected this would be the order in which I received my degrees but nothing happens before it’s time. It was difficult explaining my decision to others but ultimately it comes down to what I want and what I think is best for me. This is a huge leap of faith. I am at peace with my decision and I know that great things are in store for me. I am excited and nervous at the same time but I know doing this will open many doors for me. I will be chronicling my journey on the blog and for that I’m excited, I can’t wait to share more with you guys.

The future seems bright!

xoxo, Tanya (Future RN, MPH)

  6. I adore the fact that you are passionate about educating the people.
Preventive medicine is the mainstay of universal health care and it begins with us.
We are change we want to see out there.
I wish you the best the world has to offer.

  7. That’s so relatable. I am also a master of public health student after an undergraduate in nursing.

    • Thanks for reading! Did you complete your nursing degree? What made you choose Public health?

      • Yes, I did. I have a BSN degree. I have always wanted to work in preventive and promotive aspects of health, that is why I chose public health. I am a first year MPH student in US and now I am doing my internship in Nepal.

        • Wow! That’s amazing. I’m in my last year as an undergrad public health student and I often wonder if I want to go back to nursing when done. After so many No’s and after working in a hospital setting as a Nurse aid I’m not sure anymore. I did a study abroad in Uganda this past May and I’m positive Public health is for me. I’d love to hear more about your internship.

          • Nursing has prepared me a lot to purse a degree in public health. It’s satisfying to know that we can always do back and forth with these degrees. But it’s better to find your true calling. I am sure you are doing great in Uganda. Please do read about my experience in Nepal, I would love to know what you think and how I can do more and better.

          • I’m back in the US. The Uganda study abroad was only for a few weeks. I will be sure to check your post out and give my thoughts💜

  8. Thank you so much. I am glad that I discovered your blog. So much to learn and it’s so inspiring.
